Raimund
Wellenhofer, race director of the Thailand Temple Run has today
announced the postponement of the event initially set to take
place on 18 March 2007.
ING
Life, the event’s
title sponsor for two years decided to discontinue its sponsorship
and organizers have been unable to find sufficient sponsorship
to meet their budget needs.
“We
are very disappointed about this. We had set ourselves a deadline
of 31st October to find sufficient sponsorship and we were unable
to secure a sponsor. We have built this race with a lot of passion
and idealism and today is certainly a sad day for us.” said
Wellenhofer.
“If
we can succeed in finding sponsorship in the future we will certainly
bring this unique race back on the calendar. For the moment I would
like to thank everyone who has supported the event in the last
five years” Wellenhofer added.
Wellenhofer
stated that he and his Go Adventure Asia team will now put their
focus on the Phuket International Marathon which was successfully
inaugurated in 2006 and will take place again on 17 June 2007.
The
Thailand Temple Run was founded in 2002 and was envisioned as
a destination race that showcases an unseen, picturesque part of
Thailand. The race soon established a name for itself in the
local and international running scene for its beautiful setting
of Buddhist temples, rice paddies, coconut farms and rural Thai
life.
In its
most recent edition in 2006 the event attracted more than 3,000
participants including more than 700 international participants
from 45 countries.
